Day-11 Doing Freecodecamp and Edabit Exercises along with learning how to learn a new skill in 20 hours. ||#100daysOfCode

June 13, 2020

Hey Fam, I hope y’all are doing good. If you want to connect with me then search for the username @fabcodingzest on any platform like Instagram, Twitter, GitHub and you’ll find me 🤓🔥.

Today was pretty relaxing, as for code I didn’t do much except for 4-5 problems on Freecodecamp and Edabit combined which were pretty amazing and easy which boosted my confidence a bit that I am finally leaving my noob status which was self-assigned lol. But I am happy that I at least did some code today which needed my brain to work a Lil bit because of problem-solving. But it still counts, right?

Still counts

I watched some content on youtube today and noted down a few things which I’ll try to apply in real life and see if that works for me or not. It was about how to learn a new skill sufficiently. Lemme share what I learned.

We must have read that you need 10,000 hours to learn something but people often misunderstand it, even I did. The research which was conducted was for how much it takes to reach the top and master the skill not for how much it takes to learn a skill sufficiently. According to Josh, it takes approximately 20 hours to get really good at something if you are learning it in the right way. One way that was suggested by Josh was to break down the learning process into 4 parts. Let’s see what they are.

How to learn any skill while aiming for sufficiency not mastery at start

  • Deconstructing - It means that breaking down the skill you want to learn into the smallest subskills as possible.
  • Learning - Learning enough about every subskill to be able to practice and self-correct yourself when making a mistake.
  • Removing - Removing all the physical, mental, and emotional barriers like TV, social media, not feeling enough, being a dumb feeling, etc. Remove everything that gets in the way of practicing.
  • Practicing - Pick up the most important subskill and dedicate 20 hours at least to get competent at it. Also, focus on learning skills in the context of some real-world project so you stay motivated to keep going.

These notes are from YouTube videos of Tedx Talks from Josh Kaufman and Captain Sinbad this video on how to learn a new skill sufficiently, keyword being sufficient.

Thank you for sharing

You’re welcome!😁 Do tell me how it goes for you if you too decide to use the above technique, you know where to find me 😎.

Apart from this I am gonna watch some tutorials and take some notes for wireframing as I am yet to do the React team task for the project, yeah I know I am really very late but I had things to complete and after Pomodoro Timer I wanted to reduce the work for a day. I will complete it before tomorrow’s meeting. So that’s it for the day!

Thank you so much for reading this, I appreciate you💙.

Bye
